Explore the intricate ties between fathers and sons in a captivating evening with Demarre McGill, principal flute of the Seattle Symphony. J. S. Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 4 exudes Baroque grandeur, while his son C. P. E. shatters tradition with daring contrasts in his Flute Concerto in G Major. W. A. Mozart, ever eager to impress his father, highlights brilliance in his Flute Concerto in D Major, but how does it compare to Leopold Mozart’s Second Symphony? Come and decide which Mozart reigns supreme!

In this dynamic and forward-looking program, two of today’s most celebrated wind players — brothers Anthony McGill (clarinet) and Demarre McGill (flute) — are joined by pianist Michael McHale for an exhilarating evening of musical storytelling. From Poulenc’s sharp and poignant wit to Barber’s evocative Americana, the program spans continents and centuries. Works by living composers Chris Rogerson, Guillaume Connesson, and Valerie Coleman push the boundaries of the trio format, culminating in Portraits of Langston — a vibrant, jazz-infused homage to the poetry of Langston Hughes. These are indeed the New Horizons of chamber music — bold, soulful, and joyfully alive.
